Afraid of the Dark (in progress)

I've always been fascinated by the way we light the world, and in general by the way people as a group interact with the natural world.

The way we take over for the sun every night interests me particularly; I'm a night person and yet I'm fairly afraid of the dark.

I don't think I'm the only one.

It's hard to put into words why I take these pictures. All of these signs were made in a very similar atmosphere of feelings of love, caring, and overwhelmingly probable loss, likely mixed with powerful denial and hope.

That combination of emotions, put onto paper and put out into the elements can create some amazing things.

For my part, I made one of these signs (not pictured) a few years ago, and it did bring the cat back. Beyond that, however, I don't think of myself as "creating" any of this or even acting as a "photographer" - I'm really acting as more of a historian.

Which is, of course, what I'm trained for.
